Pakistan has received its largest-ever US crude oil shipment, marking a historic moment for the country’s energy sector. The vessel MT Pegasus, carrying one million barrels of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude, is scheduled to dock at Cnergyico’s offshore oil terminal in Balochistan.
This shipment represents the first commercial import of US crude oil into Pakistan under the new bilateral trade framework. Officials describe it as a major step in diversifying Pakistan’s energy sources and expanding trade relations with the United States.
Cnergyico confirmed that the tanker departed from Houston on September 14 and is now approaching the Single Point Mooring (SPM) terminal for docking. The company had previously set a national record in 2017 for handling the largest crude vessel received in Pakistan.
Industry experts say the arrival of this crude oil shipment opens doors for long-term trade between Islamabad and Washington. Plans are already underway to bring a second US crude oil shipment in mid-November, followed by a third consignment in 2026.
The move is expected to enhance refining margins, diversify Pakistan’s energy supplies, and strengthen bilateral economic ties. Analysts suggest that regular US crude imports could improve energy security and stabilize the local oil market.
A Cnergyico spokesperson stated, “The arrival of this crude oil shipment marks a new chapter in Pakistan-US commercial relations.” The spokesperson emphasized that the initiative reflects both countries’ commitment to sustainable energy cooperation.
This historic import underscores Pakistan’s efforts to broaden its energy portfolio and reduce dependence on traditional oil suppliers. With multiple shipments planned in the coming years, Pakistan aims to establish a consistent supply chain while supporting its refining and industrial sectors.
