Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar issued a stern warning that Israel’s recognition of the self-declared “Republic of Somaliland” could destabilize the Horn of Africa and have broader regional implications. Addressing the 22nd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah,
Dar emphasized that Pakistan would not tolerate any actions undermining Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, or development. The session was convened following Israel’s unprecedented move to formally recognize Somaliland as an independent state.
Dar described this recognition as a direct challenge to Somalia’s internationally recognized borders, stressing that the principles of state sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable under international law. He also drew attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling on the international community to urgently end the conflict and ensure uninterrupted aid to civilians. Pakistan firmly opposes any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians and reaffirmed its commitment to their right to self-determination.
Highlighting another regional flashpoint, Dar noted that the conflict in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIJOK) continues to generate tension and presents a potential nuclear risk. He urged renewed UN-led efforts to achieve a just and lasting resolution in accordance with Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha condemned Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a dangerous precedent undermining international law and regional security. In a resolution, the OIC reaffirmed Somalia’s sovereignty, stressed that Somaliland has no independent legal status, and condemned any attempts to separate or recognize it outside Somalia’s legal framework.

The resolution also criticized an Israeli official’s visit to Somaliland on January 6, 2026, calling it a serious violation of Somali sovereignty. It warned against any unauthorized foreign military, intelligence, or security presence in Somalia, describing such actions as crossing a “red line.” OIC members and international organizations were urged to refrain from engaging with Somaliland authorities, and any participation in forcibly displacing Palestinians was condemned as complicity in breaches of international and humanitarian law.
