The Pakistan Navy has taken a significant step forward with the launch of its Hangor-class submarine, Ghazi, at Shuangliu Base in Wuhan, China. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the launch on Wednesday.
According to the ISPR, the submarines built in China have now entered the sea trial phase. Following successful trials, they will be delivered to the Pakistan Navy. These vessels are expected to enhance the country’s maritime defense capabilities.
Under a defense agreement between Pakistan and China, a total of eight Hangor-class submarines are planned. Four submarines are being constructed in China, while the remaining four will be built at Karachi Shipyard with technology transfer from China.
The ISPR stated that these modern submarines are equipped with advanced weapons and sensors. They are capable of accurately targeting distant objectives, making them a strategic addition to the Pakistan Navy’s fleet.
Military analysts say the Hangor-class submarines will play a key role in strengthening Pakistan’s undersea warfare capabilities. They will help protect maritime interests and enhance the country’s strategic deterrence in the region.
The launch of Ghazi represents a milestone in Pakistan-China defense cooperation. Officials noted that technology transfer will allow Pakistan to develop its local naval manufacturing capabilities and maintain a modern, self-reliant submarine fleet.
These submarines are expected to improve the Pakistan Navy’s operational readiness against potential threats. They will also provide a credible deterrent in protecting Pakistan’s sea lines of communication and strategic assets.
With the Ghazi now in the sea trial phase, Pakistan moves closer to achieving a modern, technologically advanced submarine fleet. The project underlines the country’s commitment to strengthening naval defense and maintaining security in regional waters.
