The Pakistan Hockey Federation has announced a 20-member national squad for the upcoming FIH Pro League matches in Belgium and England. The selection aims to strengthen the national team for major international events.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation confirmed that the squad was selected on the recommendations of the National Selection Committee. Trials for players were held from May 19 to May 20.
Officials said the selection process was carefully reviewed. The PHF Professional Development Committee also examined the final list. It is headed by Olympians Islahuddin Siddiqui and Hassan Sardar.
The squad includes two goalkeepers and several senior and young players. The selected goalkeepers are Waqar and Ali Raza.
Other squad members include Abu Bakar, Arbaz Ahmad, Ammad Shakeel Butt, Nadeem Khan, and Sufyan Khan. Muhammad Abdullah and Moin Shakeel are also part of the team.
Additional players named by the Pakistan Hockey Federation include Hammad Anjum, Zikriya Hayat, and Ghazanfer Ali. Arfraz Khan, Abdul Rehman, and Rana Waleed are also selected.
The list is completed by M. Ammad, Rana Waheed, Ahmad Nadeem, Arshad Liaqat, and Hannan Shahid. Officials said a separate reserve list will be issued later.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation stated that the government has provided full administrative and financial support. The decision was taken on the direction of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Under the support package, players will receive a daily allowance of 110 US dollars. This amount will be given in advance before departure.
Authorities have also finalized accommodation and travel arrangements for the tour. These facilities are arranged for both Belgium and England matches.
Officials added that Pakistan’s diplomatic missions in both countries have been instructed to assist the team. This support will help ensure smooth coordination during the tour.
The FIH Pro League is considered an important international event. It provides valuable exposure for young and senior players.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation believes the tournament will help improve team performance. It will also prepare players for upcoming global competitions, including the Hockey World Cup.
