Pakistan Hails Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan As A ‘Unique Opportunity’

Pakistan hails US President Donald Trump’s new peace initiative for Gaza and the wider Middle East, calling it a “rare opportunity” for consensus.

At a United Nations Security Council session, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, praised Trump’s diplomatic engagement with eight OIC and Arab states. He confirmed that Pakistan would actively participate in consultative efforts to achieve a sustainable resolution.

Ambassador Ahmad described the situation in Gaza as “the most heart-wrenching tragedy of our times.” More than 66,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have died, while millions are displaced. Homes, schools, and hospitals have been destroyed, and civilians face severe shortages of food and basic supplies.

During the session, Ahmad also raised concerns over Israel’s E-1 settlement expansion, calling it “a direct threat to the two-state solution.” He warned that this plan could sever East Jerusalem from Palestinian areas and undermine West Bank contiguity, violating international law and UN Resolution 2334.

The US-backed 20-point plan, announced by Trump alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, includes an immediate ceasefire, exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners, gradual Israeli withdrawal, Hamas disarmament, and a transitional international-led government. Trump said the deal is “beyond very close” but depends on Hamas’ acceptance.

Ambassador Ahmad urged the Security Council to enforce a permanent ceasefire, lift the blockade, halt forced displacement, ensure the release of hostages, and support a political process for a sovereign Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

He concluded by emphasizing the urgency of action, stating that the credibility of the UN Security Council and the cause of peace rely on decisive measures. Pakistan hails the initiative as a chance to reduce Palestinian suffering while promoting long-term stability.

By supporting diplomacy and multilateral engagement, Pakistan hails the opportunity to advance peace in the Middle East while adhering to UN resolutions.
