Pakistan Officially Withdraws from Hockey Asia Cup in India

The Pakistan men’s hockey team has officially pulled out of the Hockey Asia Cup 2025, set to take place in Rajgir, Bihar from August 27 to September 7.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) announced the decision, citing political tensions between India and Pakistan and highlighting security concerns as the key reason. The federation emphasized that the safety and dignity of its players could not be put at risk. Although India had expressed readiness to provide visas, Pakistan’s stance reflects a broader position that player welfare and fair treatment must come first.

While the withdrawal denies Pakistan a chance to compete in a major tournament, the PHF underlined that the move is not a retreat but a statement. Officials stressed the importance of ensuring that athletes participate only under neutral and safe conditions, free from external pressures. The focus, they added, will now shift towards preparing for upcoming international competitions in secure environments that support player development.

To maintain the tournament structure, Bangladesh has been included as Pakistan’s replacement. For Pakistan, the decision reinforces its call for impartial sporting platforms where teams can compete without compromise on safety or respect.
