Pakistan’s struggles in international cricket continued as they suffered another defeat against New Zealand in the second ODI at Seddon Park, Hamilton. The loss handed the hosts an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, highlighting Pakistan’s ongoing batting woes.
New Zealand, after being put in to bat, posted a formidable total of 292/8 in their 50 overs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mitchell Hay was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 99 off 78 balls, including seven sixes and seven fours. Despite a decent effort from Pakistan’s bowlers—Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Sufyan Muqeem picking up two wickets each—the hosts managed to put up a challenging score.

Pakistan’s chase fell apart quickly as the batting order crumbled under pressure, getting bowled out for 208 in 42 overs. Faheem Ashraf’s 73 and Naseem Shah’s fighting half-century (50 off 41) were the only bright spots. The rest of the batting lineup, including Babar Azam (1), Mohammad Rizwan (5), and Imam-ul-Haq (3), failed to deliver, sealing Pakistan’s fate in the series.
With the series already lost, Pakistan will look to salvage some pride in the final ODI. However, their inability to handle pressure situations remains a growing concern ahead of upcoming international fixtures.
