Pakistan Experiences Renewed LPG Price Hike During Ramadan

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Pakistanis grappling with inflation received another blow as the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced a significant increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, exacerbating financial strain during the holy month of Ramadan. With a population exceeding 240 million, Pakistan faces a shortage of natural gas for energy needs, leading to increased reliance on LPG as an alternative fuel. However, the substantial price hike during Ramadan compounds the challenges faced by the masses.

According to the recent announcement, the price of LPG has surged by Rs30 per kilogram. Irfan Khokhar, Chairman of the LPG Association, criticized OGRA’s decision, noting the absence of an official notification regarding the price surge. He attributed the price hikes to a perceived collusion between LPG quota holders and importers.

While the official rate for LPG stands at Rs257 per kilogram, consumers in Lahore and other major cities are purchasing it for Rs350 per kilogram. In hilly regions, prices soar even higher, reaching up to Rs400 per kilogram.

This escalation in LPG prices poses a significant burden on Pakistani households already grappling with financial constraints exacerbated by inflation. The situation underscores the pressing need for regulatory measures to address the affordability and accessibility of essential commodities, particularly during religiously significant periods like Ramadan.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
