From January 1, Pakistan will begin its eighth term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
International media reports confirm that Pakistan will also preside over the Security Council in July this year. Moreover, Pakistan will join the committee responsible for imposing sanctions on groups like ISIS (Daesh) and Al-Qaeda.

In June, Pakistan secured 182 out of 193 votes from the United Nations General Assembly, earning one of the two Asia-Pacific seats on the Security Council for the next two years.
While permanent members possess veto power, non-permanent members also play a vital role, as decisions are made through consensus. This membership provides Pakistan an opportunity to address critical issues in Gaza, Afghanistan, Syria, and Lebanon.
