Importers and small businesses received a major boost as the Directorate General of Customs Valuation reduced duties on old and used computers, laptops, printers, and related accessories.

The move, announced under Valuation Ruling No. 2000 of 2025 on Friday, aims to ease financial pressure on traders dealing in second-hand electronics. It follows a year-long market study showing a sharp decline in the value of outdated electronic models.

As prices for older devices dropped significantly, customs authorities reviewed and updated the valuations under Sections 25 and 25A of the Customs Act, 1969, replacing the outdated previous ruling.

The new valuation is expected to substantially reduce import costs, making it easier for businesses — especially small and medium enterprises — to access affordable electronics.

Officials confirmed that the revised customs values will apply to all specified imports, regardless of origin, aligning with the government’s broader goal to facilitate the business sector through cheaper technology imports.

Importers welcomed the move, hoping it will lower prices and boost trade activity in the used electronics market.
