Pakistan has suspended the implementation of a new visa rule with Afghanistan, restoring normal trade between the two nations. The rule required commercial vehicle crews to present passports and visas, causing tensions.
Afghan officials, following discussions, agreed to a two-week extension for their drivers to cross the border. The resumption of cross-border trade was confirmed, even as Pakistan had twice deferred the new rule’s implementation.

The countries’ relations had strained when Pakistan announced the deportation of illegal immigrants, leading to about 340,000 Afghans leaving, and Pakistan plans to expel around 1 million more by January.
