Karachi Customs Foils Smuggling Bid of 14,000 Donkey Hides Worth Rs 80 Million
KARACHI: The Customs Enforcement Collectorate has successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 14,000 donkey hides out of the country, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The banned consignment was intercepted at the South Asia Pakistan Port Terminal, where the hides were recovered from a container cleared through the green channel by the Collectorate of Customs Export. The shipment, declared by M/s Wow Trading as containing 285 packages of leather products, had already been cleared for loading onto a cargo vessel.

However, during a detailed inspection by the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), the illicit consignment was discovered. Under Pakistan’s Export Policy, the export of donkey hides is strictly prohibited due to animal welfare and trade concerns.
The recovered hides, valued at Rs 80 million, have been seized and moved to the ASO warehouse. Authorities have registered a case against the exporter under the Customs Act, and an investigation is underway.
