Pakistan and China have jointly called for more visible, verifiable actions to eliminate terrorist groups based in Afghanistan, emphasizing the urgent need to curb regional militancy and enhance security cooperation.
In a strongly worded communique issued on Monday at the conclusion of the 7th Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue in Beijing, the two nations urged the Interim Afghan Government to take decisive counter-terrorism measures. The joint statement, co-chaired by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, underscored that all terrorist organisations operating from Afghan soil continue to pose “serious threats to regional and global security.”
The communique reiterated Islamabad and Beijing’s commitment to working closely on the Afghan issue, advocating that Kabul adopt inclusive politics and focus on development to deter extremist influence. China also lauded Pakistan’s sacrifices in combating terrorism and protecting Chinese nationals and projects, reinforcing long-standing strategic ties under initiatives such as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Pakistan’s security concerns have intensified due to a documented surge in cross-border militant violence. During recent diplomatic engagements, Islamabad has presented evidence of terrorist activity by groups such as the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which Islamabad argues continue to find refuge inside Afghanistan under varying degrees of protection.
Experts note that Islamabad’s focus on “visible, verifiable actions” echoes similar appeals made by China, Russia and Iran during a quadripartite foreign ministers’ meeting in New York, where all sides urged Kabul to dismantle training camps and terrorist infrastructure.
The call comes amid notable security developments along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Following the closure of several crossing points to prevent militant infiltration, Pakistan reported a drop in terror incidents, with security experts linking enhanced border measures to improved stability on Pakistan’s western frontier.
Pakistan and China’s joint appeal for visible, verifiable actions to eliminate terrorist groups based in Afghanistan sets the tone for deeper regional counter-terrorism cooperation and strategic dialogue moving into 2026.
