Direct flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh have officially resumed after a 14-year suspension, marking a significant development in regional air travel and bilateral relations. The restoration of direct air connectivity is being seen as an important step toward improving people-to-people contact and strengthening ties between the two countries.
According to reports, Bangladesh’s private airline Heman Air operated its first direct flight in more than a decade, transporting passengers from Dhaka to Karachi. Upon arrival at Jinnah International Airport, the aircraft received a warm and ceremonial reception, highlighting the importance of the occasion.
To commemorate the historic moment, the plane was honored with a traditional water salute on the runway, a gesture typically reserved for landmark or inaugural flights. In addition, a cake-cutting ceremony was organized at the airport to celebrate the resumption of services. The event was attended by several officials, including the Governor of Sindh, who termed the development a positive and symbolic milestone.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor of Sindh described the restart of direct flights as a historic achievement and a reflection of Pakistan’s growing diplomatic progress. He expressed optimism that such positive developments would continue in the future, strengthening regional cooperation and mutual understanding.
The governor further emphasized that Pakistan and Bangladesh share brotherly relations, rooted in shared history, culture, and values. He claimed that past efforts by external forces, particularly under India’s leadership, were aimed at creating divisions between the two nations. According to him, these attempts have failed, as evidenced by the renewed cooperation and improved ties.
The resumption of direct air links is expected to facilitate travel for businesspeople, tourists, and families, while also boosting trade, cultural exchanges, and diplomatic engagement. Analysts believe this step could open the door to further collaboration in economic and social sectors, signaling a new phase in Pakistan-Bangladesh relations after years of limited direct connectivity.
