Pakistan Army Assumes Control of Islamabad’s Security Amid Rising Concerns

The Pakistan Army has officially taken charge of security in Islamabad under Article 245 of the Constitution, following a directive from the Interior Ministry. This move aims to ensure the safety of citizens and maintain law and order in the capital ahead of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

Army personnel have already begun patrolling various parts of the city, with a significant presence established in the D-Chowk area, where the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is planning a protest. Reinforcements from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have also been dispatched to bolster security efforts, with authorities committed to preventing any unrest or disruption.

In addition to the military, paramilitary Rangers will be stationed around key government buildings and strategic roads within the Red Zone, as part of a comprehensive security plan approved by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

The SCO summit, scheduled for October 15 and 16, will bring together delegations from nine member countries, four observers, 14 dialogue partners, and four guest delegates. The army’s deployment is set to continue until October 17, with officials emphasizing that the safety of residents and the success of the summit are top priorities.
