Pakistan and Jordan Reaffirm Defence Cooperation

Pakistan and Jordan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence and military ties during a high-level meeting at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir hosted Major General Yousef Ahmed A. Al Huneiti, Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff, to discuss matters of mutual interest and regional security challenges.

During the meeting, both sides emphasised the importance of deepening military-to-military engagement and fostering collaboration on emerging security issues. Field Marshal Munir highlighted Pakistan’s resolve to further strengthen defence ties with Jordan, stressing the role of joint efforts in promoting regional peace and stability.

The Jordanian military chief praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their contributions to maintaining security and stability in the region. Both sides also discussed potential avenues for defence training exchanges and cooperative initiatives aimed at enhancing operational readiness.

Officials noted that the defence relationship between Pakistan and Jordan is rooted in shared strategic interests and long-standing brotherly ties. The reaffirmation of cooperation underscores the commitment of both nations to work together on security matters and strengthen their strategic partnership.

The meeting follows prior interactions between the two countries, including the visit of Jordan’s King Abdullah II to Pakistan, where both sides highlighted the importance of sustained military and defence collaboration. Analysts say these engagements reflect a broader trend of countries in South Asia and the Middle East seeking stronger strategic and defence partnerships.

The renewed focus on defence cooperation between Pakistan and Jordan is seen as a positive step toward enhancing regional stability, promoting joint preparedness, and ensuring a coordinated approach to emerging security challenges in the region.
