Pakistan and Belarus Strengthen Ties with Major Cooperation Agreements

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed gratitude for Belarus’s generous offer to invite 150,000 skilled Pakistani workers to contribute to the country’s development. This announcement, made during a joint press conference with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, highlights the deepening cooperation between the two nations. The prime minister emphasized that this initiative would not only benefit Belarus but also provide meaningful employment for Pakistani youth.

The two leaders also discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in sectors like agriculture, trade, defense, and technology. Pakistan, an agrarian country, is keen to tap into Belarus’s expertise in modern agricultural methodologies to boost crop yields. Additionally, both countries agreed on joint ventures in agricultural machinery manufacturing and expanding food security collaboration. Another key area of discussion was the manufacturing of electric buses, with the potential for Pakistan and Belarus to collaborate on this environmentally sustainable initiative.

On the defense front, Pakistan and Belarus signed several memorandums of understanding (MoUs), including agreements on defense cooperation, military-technical collaboration, and environmental protection. These agreements reflect the two nations’ shared commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership. Furthermore, the governments of both countries signed a Readmission Agreement and agreements between their interior ministries to foster greater cooperation.

During his visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted that this cooperation would serve as a catalyst for deeper ties, furthering the mutual interests of both nations. President Lukashenko also emphasized his country’s commitment to fostering strong relations with Pakistan, particularly in trade, industry, and technology.

The prime minister’s social media post further highlighted the significant steps taken during the talks, including the exchange of MoUs in various fields and the commitment to sending Pakistani workers to Belarus. The visit is set to transform the long-standing friendship between the two countries into a comprehensive and lasting partnership.
