Pak-Bangladesh Flights to Begin in December

Bangladesh High Commissioner Iqbal Hussain Khan announced that Mahan Air is expected to operate three weekly flights between Karachi and Dhaka starting next month. This move is seen as a major step toward boosting trade and enhancing connectivity between the two countries.

Speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI), the high commissioner noted that the visa process has been streamlined. Visas will now be issued within three to four days based on a joint recommendation from LCCI and the Bangladesh Honorary Consulate in Lahore, making travel faster and more convenient.

Highlighting trade opportunities, he suggested Pakistan could export rice to Bangladesh, while Bangladesh could supply fresh pineapples. He also emphasized significant potential in textiles and readymade garments. A dedicated direct cargo service is planned soon to meet growing trade demand, supplementing the cargo service operational since last December.

In education, he encouraged collaboration, announcing that the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan will send a delegation of representatives from 12 universities to Bangladesh to attract more students. He also promoted tourism and stressed the shared culture, history, and values linking both nations.

LCCI President Faheemur Rehman Saigol echoed these sentiments, highlighting historical ties, potential in IT, automobiles, and garments, and noting that bilateral trade could grow from $700 million to $3 billion. Direct flights would further strengthen trade, and a delegation from LCCI is set to visit Dhaka soon.
