OpenAI has expanded its offerings by releasing its text-to-video AI model, Sora, to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. This development marks a significant step in OpenAI’s venture into multimodal AI technologies, targeting competition from tools like Meta’s, Google’s text-to-video technologies, and Stability AI’s Stable Video Diffusion.
Initially introduced in February for safety testers during its research preview, Sora is now available as Sora Turbo at no extra cost for ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers. The model enables users to generate videos up to 1080p resolution, lasting up to 20 seconds, in widescreen, vertical, or square aspect ratios.

OpenAI is also planning to introduce tailored pricing for various user types by early next year.
While Sora is available in most regions where ChatGPT operates, it is not yet accessible in EU countries, the UK, or Switzerland. The company aims to ensure responsible usage by blocking the creation of harmful content, such as child sexual abuse material or sexual deepfakes.
“Uploads featuring people will be restricted at launch, but we plan to expand this capability after enhancing our deepfake mitigation measures,” OpenAI stated in its blog post.
