OpenAI has announced the launch of GPT‑5.2, its latest and most advanced AI model series designed for professional knowledge work. The company says users of ChatGPT Enterprise already report saving 40–60 minutes per day, while heavy users save over 10 hours per week. GPT‑5.2 is built to enhance productivity in tasks including spreadsheets, presentations, coding, image analysis, long-context projects, and tool integration.
Setting New Benchmarks in AI Performance
According to OpenAI, GPT‑5.2 achieves state-of-the-art results on multiple industry benchmarks. On GDPval, which evaluates professional knowledge-work tasks across 44 occupations, GPT‑5.2 Thinking matches or exceeds human expert performance in 70.9% of tasks, while GPT‑5.2 Pro reaches 74.1%. The AI performs outputs more than 11 times faster and at under 1% of the historical expert cost.
GDPval tasks include sales presentations, accounting spreadsheets, healthcare schedules, manufacturing diagrams, and short videos. OpenAI notes that judges described GPT‑5.2 outputs as “professionally produced work,” with only minor errors. On investment-banking spreadsheet tasks, GPT‑5.2 Thinking scores 68.4%, up from 59.1% on GPT‑5.1, and GPT‑5.2 Pro scores 71.7%.
Enhanced Coding, Vision, and Long-Context Abilities
OpenAI highlights GPT‑5.2’s improved coding performance, including debugging, feature implementation, refactoring large projects, and shipping complete solutions. The model can create apps from single prompts, such as simulations, holiday card builders, and games.
GPT‑5.2 Thinking also sets a new standard for long-context reasoning, handling up to 256,000 tokens with near-perfect accuracy. Its vision capabilities are stronger, with better spatial and image understanding, and tool-use benchmarks show improved real-world application.
Rollout and Future Plans
OpenAI is making GPT‑5.2 available through paid ChatGPT plans and the API. GPT‑5.1 will remain as a legacy model for three months. OpenAI emphasizes that GPT‑5.2 is part of its ongoing effort to improve AI general intelligence, safety, long-context understanding, and tool use.
