The National Telecom Corporation (NTC) has announced a new cyber defence plan to protect key government institutions from increasing cyber threats.
According to an official document, NTC aims to secure the digital infrastructure of federal and provincial governments. The strategy focuses on providing safe, modern, and reliable IT services to all government departments.
To strengthen cybersecurity, NTC will install advanced firewalls and border controllers. These tools will improve network protection and prevent unauthorized access. A real-time threat monitoring system is also part of the plan. This system will help detect and respond to cyberattacks more quickly.
The document highlights that NTC is working to improve internet speed and connectivity. As part of this effort, it will deploy Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology for 4G services. The rollout will cover major cities such as Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, Attock, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala, and Dera Ghazi Khan.
NTC also plans to introduce secure mobile phone services for senior government officials. This will help prevent data leaks, surveillance, and hacking. The secure mobile system will protect communication between key decision-makers.
Additionally, a secure access system will be installed at NTC’s data centers in Islamabad. This system will tighten internal controls and protect sensitive information stored within government networks.
The document further reveals that NTC is planning to expand its cloud services and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. These upgrades will support data protection and align Pakistan’s digital infrastructure with international standards.
NTC’s new strategy marks a significant step toward stronger cybersecurity and better digital services for public institutions. With growing digital threats, the plan aims to ensure that government communication and data remain secure at all times.
