The Ministry of Information has addressed the confusion caused by a viral notification claiming that September 6 would be a public holiday. The Ministry’s Fact Check page on X (formerly Twitter) denounced the notification as fake, emphasizing that spreading false information is both “unethical” and illegal. “Disseminating #FakeNews is not just unlawful and unethical; it also harms the nation,” the post stated, urging the public to reject such irresponsible actions.
National Defence Day commemorates the sacrifices made by soldiers during the 1965 War with India. The day is a tribute to Pakistan’s defense against Indian forces that crossed the border, marking a significant victory over an unprovoked attack. Traditionally, the day is observed with military parades, weaponry displays, and various ceremonies to honor the nation’s defense forces.
