In May 2023, the total public debt stock of the federal government saw a year-on-year increase of 32.1 percent compared to the same month in the previous fiscal year. According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the debt stock rose to Rs. 58.962 trillion in May 2023, compared to Rs. 44.641 trillion in May 2022, reflecting a significant increase of Rs. 14.321 trillion.

The federal government has officially announced a 17.5 percent increase in pension for pensioners of the federal government. The Finance Division issued a notification stating that the President has approved the increase, which will be effective from July 1, 2023, until further notice.
