The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to expand from six to eight teams in 2026. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is completing evaluations of proposals from interested groups. The official auction is scheduled for January 8 at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad.
Among the confirmed bidders is the Tareen Group, led by Ali Khan Tareen. Tareen previously owned the Multan Sultans, a team he transformed into one of the PSL’s strongest performers. The team won the 2021 title and reached several finals under his leadership.
Tareen left Multan Sultans after disputes with the PCB over renewal terms and governance issues. He was the only owner not offered a 10-year extension, and a legal notice over contract breaches escalated the dispute. His exit at the end of 2025 makes him eligible to bid for one of the new PSL franchises.
The Inverse Group, a leading renewable energy company in Pakistan, has also applied for bidding rights. Its participation shows growing corporate interest in the league’s expansion. Karachi-based VGO TEL, under CEO Naveed Gaba, has submitted its proposal as well.
The OZ Group, chaired by Hamza Majeed, has formally entered the race. Majeed has previously expressed strong interest in investing in sports, making OZ Group a key contender for the new PSL franchises.
Once the winning bidders are confirmed, they will have the opportunity to choose a home city. The PCB has approved several options, including Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, and Gilgit.
The expansion of the PSL to eight teams is expected to boost competition and attract more fans. Analysts predict the inclusion of corporate-backed franchises will increase financial stability and marketing opportunities for the league.
The auction will be closely watched as top investors compete for the new PSL franchises. Fans are eager to see which cities will host the new teams and how the league’s dynamics will change in 2026.
The PCB’s careful evaluation process ensures transparency in awarding new franchises. This expansion represents a major milestone in the growth of Pakistan’s premier T20 league.
Don’t miss the latest update about Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who is set to perform at the upcoming PSL auctions. His presence is expected to bring extra energy and excitement to the event.
