Apple’s latest iPhone, featuring the A18 chip, is set to be unveiled at a special event on Monday, September 9, according to reports from the Financial Times. The new iPhone’s chip has been developed using SoftBank-owned Arm’s V9 chip design, marking a continued partnership between Apple and Arm.

This announcement follows a deal Apple signed with Arm in September last year, which extends their collaboration beyond 2040. Arm’s V9 chip design accounts for 50% of smartphone revenue, highlighting its influence in mobile technology.

Apple’s long history with Arm dates back to 1990, when Apple partnered with Arm to create the processor for its Newton handheld computer, which, though unsuccessful, paved the way for Arm’s dominance in mobile phone chips due to its low power consumption. The upcoming iPhone launch, expected to be part of Apple’s fall event at its Cupertino headquarters, will also likely feature updates to other devices and apps.
