The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced the discovery of new gas and condensate reserves at the Betani-2 well, located in the Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). This marks the first-ever hydrocarbon discovery in this area, particularly in the Samanasak formation, according to an OGDCL spokesperson, as reported by Express News.
The reserves are producing 2.14 million standard cubic feet of gas per day along with 74 barrels of condensate daily. This discovery is expected to significantly boost Pakistan’s energy sector, with OGDCL planning to drill more wells in the area to explore further reserves.

“This discovery is an important step forward for the company and the energy sector in Pakistan,” the spokesperson said, expressing optimism about future discoveries in the Samanasak formation.
Earlier, OGDCL had also commenced gas production from newly discovered reserves in Dera Bugti, Balochistan, with assistance from the State Investment and Finance Corporation (SIFC). These reserves, located in the Uch Sharif area, have an estimated production capacity of 5 million standard cubic feet per day. Gas from this area will be processed at OGDCL’s Uch Gas Processing Plant and supplied to Uch Power Limited, potentially boosting the company’s profits to Rs41.02 billion.
OGDCL has emphasized its commitment to increasing production to enhance national energy security and support sustainable development. The company had previously discovered gas reserves in Khairpur, Sindh, further contributing to Pakistan’s energy stability.
