The present tariff rise, according to a notification, would exclude lifeline customers and electric car charging stations, while users across the country will see the hike individually in their bills beginning in June 2023.

Aside from K-Electric, DISCOS will include the tariff increase in consumer bills based on units billed in April 2023.

“While implementing the fuel charges adjustment, the DISCOs concerned shall keep in mind and strictly comply with the orders of the courts, notwithstanding this order,” the notification stated.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had previously petitioned the NEPRA for a Rs. 2.01 per kWh tariff hike, citing that a total of 10,010.30 GWh of energy was generated in April at a cost of Rs. 10.2384 per kWh, of which 9,734.91 GWh was delivered to DISCOs at a cost of Rs. 10.3975/kWh.

The CPPA’s appeal includes information on the contribution of various sources in energy production, including hydel, coal, boiler oil, gas and RLNG, nuclear, wind, bagasse, solar, and power imports from Iran.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
