The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced an increase in electricity prices for K-Electric consumers in Karachi, raising the cost by 40 paisas per unit. This adjustment is part of the monthly fuel cost adjustment for August and will be reflected in customer bills starting in January 2025.
NEPRA’s notification stated that the increase aims to address fluctuations in fuel costs experienced by K-Electric. The fuel cost adjustment is a regular procedure designed to balance costs in response to changes in fuel prices, which is crucial for ensuring the sustainability of electricity supplies.

This latest hike follows a previous increase of Rs3.03 per unit announced last week, also as part of the monthly fuel price adjustment for July 2024. According to NEPRA’s official notification, these additional charges will be collected from consumers in their December 2024 bills.
K-Electric had initially requested a higher rate increase of Rs3.09 per unit for July, citing rising fuel costs. After reviewing the proposal, NEPRA approved a slightly lower increase of Rs3.03 per unit for Karachi’s electricity consumers.
