Pakistan Navy Receives New Indigenously Built Gunboat

The Pakistan Navy has launched a new locally made gunboat named PNS SAHIWAL to boost maritime defense. The launch took place at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW).

This advanced vessel is designed by the Navy’s own Platform Design Wing (PDW) and is currently under construction at KS&EW. The launch ceremony was attended by senior naval officers, including Vice Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami.

According to the Navy, PNS SAHIWAL is equipped with long-range, semi-automatic weaponry. These features will make it highly effective in various maritime security operations, including coastal patrol and surveillance.

Admiral Bilgrami praised the teamwork between PDW and KS&EW. He called the launch a major step in strengthening Pakistan’s self-reliance in defense production. He said the gunboat reflects the Navy’s ongoing efforts to build indigenous warships and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers.

The gunboat is built to support multiple missions. It will help in securing Pakistan’s waters and responding to maritime threats. The ship also highlights the country’s growing shipbuilding capability.

Officials also revealed plans to produce more vessels of this type. This will further support the growth of local shipyards and contribute to Pakistan’s defense industry.

The Navy stated that such projects are vital for long-term strategic goals. They improve national security and create skilled jobs in shipbuilding.

PNS SAHIWAL is a symbol of Pakistan’s commitment to modernizing its naval fleet using local resources and talent. With this launch, the Navy continues its progress toward a stronger, self-reliant maritime force.
