On Monday, Pakistan’s National Assembly passed key bills to extend the tenures of the country’s top military leaders and increase the number of Supreme Court judges. These legislative changes aim to bring more stability to Pakistan’s judiciary and armed forces leadership.
The bill, presented by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, proposes lengthening the service terms of the Chief of the Army Staff, Chief of the Naval Staff, and Chief of the Air Staff from three years to five years, ensuring continuity within the armed forces.

In a separate move, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar introduced another bill that seeks to expand the Supreme Court bench to 34 judges. This increase is intended to help manage the court’s workload and improve the efficiency of the judicial system.
