Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President NAqVI arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday to lead the ACC’s Annual General Meeting. The meeting is scheduled for July 24 in Bangladesh’s capital. It will focus on important decisions, including finalizing the host nation and schedule for the upcoming Asia Cup.
NAqVI, who also serves as Pakistan’s caretaker Interior Minister, was welcomed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam. His arrival marks the start of key discussions among ACC member countries.
Delegates from several member nations have gathered in Dhaka ahead of the meeting. A formal dinner is planned to honor the participants and prepare for the sessions.
However, the meeting faces challenges due to the absence of India’s cricket board, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Despite being the official host of the Asia Cup, India has not confirmed attendance or participation via video link.
Reports suggest that the BCCI has expressed concerns over security and political issues in Bangladesh. The Indian board has also postponed its bilateral cricket series scheduled for August in Bangladesh.
NAqVI and ACC officials are expected to address these concerns during the meeting. The situation highlights ongoing tensions within Asian cricket governance and raises questions about the Asia Cup’s future.
The ACC meeting chaired by NAqVI is seen as a vital step to maintain unity and progress in Asian cricket. The decisions made will impact the sport’s development in the region and its international relations.
