NAB Reopens Corruption Cases Against Nawaz Sharif And Asif Zardari

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]NAB reopens 80 corruption cases involving Nawaz Sharif, Asif Zardari.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has reinstated 80 corruption cases against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former President Asif Ali Zardari, and other politicians.

The anti-corruption agency has sent a letter to the registrar of an accountability court in Islamabad, following the Supreme Court’s decision. NAB will subsequently provide the court with the records of all cases to resume proceedings.

These 80 cases include the fake accounts case against Asif Ali Zardari, the rental power case involving Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Parvez Ashraf, and the Toshakhana cases against Nawaz Sharif, Yousaf Raza Gilani, and others.

The accountability department has also reopened a case related to assets beyond means against former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

Last week, the Supreme Court deemed a petition filed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan against amendments to accountability laws made by the previous coalition government as admissible.

A three-member bench led by outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, along with Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, announced the decision with a 2-1 majority. Bandial and Justice Ahsan found Imran’s plea admissible, while Justice Shah dissented.

The court also invalidated certain amendments to accountability laws, deeming them unconstitutional.

It overturned an amendment that limited the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) authority in cases involving over Rs500 million and another amendment related to plea bargains.

The top court ordered cases that were closed due to their involvement of amounts below Rs500 million to be scheduled for hearings in accountability courts. NAB was given seven days to provide the courts with the case records.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
