Malik elaborated that around 75 foreign students residing in Block A were praying at their hostel around 10:30 pm when a group of 20-25 individuals entered the premises. The intruders objected to the students’ prayer session and demanded they use a mosque instead. A confrontation ensued, resulting in physical assaults and stone-throwing.
Law enforcement authorities claimed to have restored order and initiated legal action against 20-25 suspects, who were expected to be apprehended soon. The attackers chanted slogans like “Jai Shri Ram.”
Videos circulating on social media depicted vandalism and violence, including damaged property and abusive behavior towards the international students. With no mosque available on campus, the students had gathered in a hostel designated for foreign students to offer prayers during Ramadan. The Hindu extremists stormed their rooms, causing destruction.
Gujarat University’s vice chancellor, Neerja Arun Gupta, described the incident as a clash between two groups and assured that both the police and the government were treating the matter seriously.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs acknowledged the situation and stated that it was coordinating with the state government in response.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
