Delhi Police have arrested two gang members accused of plotting to murder stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui. The suspects, Rahul from Panipat and Sahil from Bhiwani, Haryana, were part of the Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar-Virender Charan gang.
Police said the gangsters were following instructions from foreign-based gangster Rohit Godara. The plot involved tracking Munawar Faruqui in Mumbai and Bengaluru. Authorities added that the gangsters had conducted reconnaissance to monitor his movements.
The arrests followed a gunfight on Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj Road. Police had received information about suspicious riders near New Friends Colony. A trap was set on Kalindi Kunj-Pushta Road around 3am. When officers asked the bike riders to stop, they allegedly opened fire, prompting police retaliation. Rahul sustained a gunshot wound during the encounter.
Rahul is also wanted in connection with a triple murder in Yamunanagar, Haryana, in December 2024. Police confirmed that the gang had targeted other celebrities as well, including Kapil Sharma and Disha Patani. The gang’s increasing attacks highlight a growing threat to public figures in India.
Munawar Faruqui, who won the reality show Bigg Boss in 2024, currently has 14.2 million Instagram followers. Earlier in 2024, police had acted on a threat to his life, prompting his urgent return to Mumbai from Delhi. Officials also said Munawar Faruqui had been on the hit list of infamous gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
Law enforcement officials have stressed that the arrests of Rahul and Sahil demonstrate a strong effort to protect public figures. Authorities continue monitoring organized crime networks that target celebrities in India.
The Delhi Police investigation remains ongoing, with further action expected against other members of the Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar gang. Munawar Faruqui’s safety continues to be a top priority for the authorities.
