Multan Sultans are reportedly close to making a comeback in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), as preparations for the 2026 season gather pace. A major franchise identity change is underway, which could see the well-known name reintroduced to the tournament.
Sources reveal that CD Ventures has formally approached the Pakistan Cricket Board with a request to rename the newly formed Sialkot Stallionz franchise as Multan Sultans. An official confirmation is expected soon, with the board likely to announce the development in the coming days.
The move follows significant changes in the ownership structure of the Sialkot-based franchise. Initially, the team was awarded to OZ Developers during the PSL expansion phase. However, financial challenges reportedly forced a shift in control. CD Ventures, led by Gohar Shah, subsequently acquired a dominant stake in the franchise, effectively assuming operational command even before the team could make its league debut.
Rather than launching a completely new brand under the Sialkot Stallionz identity, the new management appears keen to revive the Multan Sultans name, which already holds strong recognition among PSL fans. The brand became available after the previous franchise operating under that title was rebranded as Rawalpindi following an ownership transition involving Walee Technologies.
Supporters of the decision argue that Multan Sultans offer an established fan base, a defined regional connection in South Punjab, and an existing market presence that would be easier to promote compared to a newly created identity. PSL Chief Executive Salman Naseer has hinted that a formal announcement regarding the franchise’s ownership and branding is expected soon, potentially confirming the return of Multan Sultans to the league.
