In a harrowing incident in Karachi’s Defence area, a mother killed her two young children by slitting their throats with a sharp weapon. Police have arrested the suspect, identified as Adeeba, and recovered the murder weapon.
The victims — 4-year-old Samiha and 7-year-old Zarar, children of Ghufran — were found in the bathroom of a bungalow on Street No. 10, Khayaban-e-Mujahid, Defence Phase 6. Police shifted the bodies to Jinnah Hospital for legal formalities after collecting forensic evidence.
SSP South Manzoor Ali confirmed that Adeeba, who had been divorced from Ghufran since September, committed the murders. The children were living with their father, but he frequently allowed them to visit their mother. On this occasion, the children stayed overnight.
Reports indicate that Adeeba, who suffered from seizures and mental health problems, lost control during an episode and killed the children before calling her ex-husband to confess. Police arrived with the father and found the bodies.
Ghufran, a senior employee at a private company, lived separately, while Adeeba rented part of a bungalow. According to a household employee, the children usually returned home after visiting their mother, but on Thursday morning he discovered them dead in the bathroom. An investigation is ongoing.
