More Rain, Thunderstorm Expected In Islamabad

The Meteorological Office has issued a weather forecast anticipating additional scattered rainfall in Islamabad and various regions across the country. The twin cities, Islamabad and Rawalpindi, recently experienced a bout of cold weather following showers.

The capital city, Islamabad, is currently witnessing precipitation due to the influence of a new weather system, primarily a westerly wave prevailing over the upper regions of the country. This anticipated rainfall is expected to bring much-needed relief from the dry and cold weather that has persisted, resulting in temperatures remaining below average in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and adjacent areas. Additionally, the introduction of this weather system is forecasted to dissipate the dense fog that has disrupted both air and road travel.

As of Thursday, the daytime temperature in Islamabad hovered around 8 degrees Celsius, with expectations of the mercury dropping to 3 degrees Celsius at night. This signifies a notable shift in weather conditions, providing respite from the dry and cold climate that has characterized the recent days.

In terms of air quality, the federal capital recorded a level of 107, which reflects an improvement compared to late January when heightened pollution levels were reported in the twin cities. The anticipation is that the ongoing rainfall and the influence of the new weather system will contribute to further improvement in air quality.

Looking at the broader weather outlook for Pakistan, cold weather is predicted across most parts of the country, with upper regions experiencing partly cloudy conditions. Moreover, there are projections for rain, wind, and thunderstorms, including snowfall over mountainous areas, at isolated locations in Gilgit Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and the Pothohar region. There is a likelihood of heavy rain and snow at isolated places in Kashmir. Additionally, fog is expected at a few locations in south Punjab and upper Sindh during the night.

In the preceding 24 hours, minimum temperatures were recorded at -07 degrees Celsius in Leh, Kalam, and Gupis, -05 degrees Celsius in Astore, -04 degrees Celsius in Kalat and Rawalakot, and -03 degrees Celsius in various locations.

The weather forecast suggests a dynamic pattern with a mix of precipitation, temperature fluctuations, and potential improvements in air quality. The information provided by the Meteorological Office serves as a valuable resource for residents, travelers, and authorities to stay informed and prepared for the evolving weather conditions in the coming days.
