Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has addressed the speculation surrounding his status in the first ILT20 auction. Many fans believed he was snubbed, but the bowler has now clarified the situation.
The 33-year-old left-arm fast bowler was available for selection in the upcoming ILT20 season. Despite a strong track record in franchise cricket, he went unsold during the auction. Mohammad Amir shared a screenshot of an email on social media, showing he had formally withdrawn from the auction before it took place.
The email stated: “As you may be aware of the recent developments, please treat this email as a notice of withdrawal by Mohammad Amir from the upcoming ILT20 auction.” This confirmed that his absence from bids was not due to a lack of interest from teams.
Despite his withdrawal, Amir still appeared in the auction at USD 80,000 but went unsold. Desert Vipers’ CEO Phil Oliver clarified that the team did not bid for him because they already had suitable replacements, including fellow Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah.
Mohammad Amir has proven his value in the ILT20 through past seasons. In two campaigns with the Desert Vipers, he took 26 wickets with an economy rate of 8.01. His consistent performances have made him one of the most reliable left-arm seamers in franchise cricket.
The ILT20 is scheduled to begin on December 2 across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah. Fans are now left wondering whether Mohammad Amir will return in future editions or if this marks his quiet farewell from the league.
Analysts note that Amir’s experience and skill make him a key asset for any franchise. His clarification on the auction helps settle rumours and ensures his reputation remains intact. Mohammad Amir continues to be a respected figure in Pakistan cricket and global franchise leagues.
