Don’t Blame Pakistan Without Proof, Ex-Minister Hits Back At Modi

The Modi government is under fire after its handling of the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The April 22 incident left 26 people dead, most of them reportedly tourists.

Former Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram has questioned the silence of key officials in the Modi-led administration. He criticised the lack of clear communication following the deadly attack and the military operation that followed.

Chidambaram asked why the attackers have not been identified or arrested. He raised concerns about the secrecy surrounding Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the attack. He said that the Modi government may be hiding tactical mistakes and losses suffered during the operation.

According to Chidambaram, information is coming from scattered sources — defence officers abroad — while the Prime Minister, Defence Minister, and Foreign Minister remain silent. He said this silence is raising doubts about the government’s transparency and accountability.

Chidambaram also criticised the National Investigation Agency (NIA), saying it has failed to share updates on its probe. He warned against blaming Pakistan without evidence, suggesting the attackers may be local. The Modi government has yet to provide proof linking the incident to Pakistan.

Following the Pahalgam attack, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, claiming to have shot down Indian jets and destroyed drones. India did not confirm the losses and termed Pakistan’s actions as “unprovoked aggression.”

The conflict ended on May 10 after a ceasefire brokered by the United States. President Donald Trump claimed credit for easing tensions, though New Delhi downplayed his role.

Chidambaram’s comments have added to growing pressure on the Modi government. Opposition parties are demanding more transparency in national security matters. The government has not yet issued an official response.

The public continues to await clarity as questions remain unanswered.
