Lily and Margot, two blue-throated macaws that escaped from London Zoo, have been located 60 miles away in Cambridgeshire after a week-long search. The vibrant parrots, distinguished by their deep blue feathers and yellow markings, went missing on October 21 during their routine free-flying exercise at the zoo.
The search ended when a family in Buckden, Cambridgeshire, spotted the birds in their garden. Although the macaws initially took flight again, they were eventually found in a nearby field. Zookeepers reported that Lily and Margot flew directly into their arms upon being retrieved and enjoyed a delightful treat of pumpkin seeds, walnuts, and pecans.

Both birds are in good health and are currently in quarantine at London Zoo’s animal hospital. They are expected to be reunited with their parents, Popeye and Ollie, after their recovery. London Zoo is home to four blue-throated macaws, one of the largest parrot species native to Brazil, renowned for their vocal calls that can be heard up to a kilometer away.
