Mentally Challenged Girl Sexually Assaulted by Rickshaw Driver in Lahore

LAHORE – Police have apprehended a rickshaw driver accused of sexually assaulting a mentally challenged girl in Lahore’s Shahdara area.

According to reports, the suspect, identified as Pervaiz, allegedly lured the girl before committing the assault. Following a complaint, law enforcement swiftly arrested him and initiated an investigation.

SP City Bilal Ahmed emphasized that individuals involved in acts of sexual violence and abuse, particularly against children, will face strict action with no room for leniency.

Meanwhile, alarming figures have emerged regarding violence against women during the first quarter of 2025.

Between January and March, 27 women were murdered and 151 rape cases were registered. Police data revealed that 1,182 women were reported kidnapped in this period, with 988 recovered and 194 still missing.

Additionally, 138 children were abducted, of whom 14 remain untraced. Among the 151 registered rape cases, 110 suspects have been arrested, while 41 are still at large.

There were also 47 reported cases of child sexual abuse, leading to the arrest of 44 suspects; three remain unapprehended.

DIG Faisal Kamran reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance policy toward crimes involving women and children, stating that most cases have been resolved, and efforts continue to apprehend the remaining suspects.
