Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Under Islamic law, a woman must finalize her divorce and observe the iddat period before remarrying. Such incidents are rare, as refusal-related violence is typically male-initiated. A similar case occurred earlier in Buner, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a schoolteacher was killed for rejecting a marriage proposal.
