Many Karachi Areas to Face Serious Water Shortage

The Karachi Water and Sanitation Corporation (KWSC) has announced that water supply in several areas of the city will either be suspended or reduced for four days starting Monday due to urgent repair work on a major transmission line. The temporary disruption is necessary to fix a serious leakage and improve the overall water system, especially with Ramazan approaching.

According to a KWSC spokesperson, a leak was detected in the 84-inch diameter Phase-I main water pipeline located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 19. To prevent further damage and ensure a stable supply, the corporation has decided to carry out immediate repairs. The work will begin at 12 noon on Monday and is expected to last up to 96 hours. Technical teams and experts will remain on-site throughout the process to complete the repairs on time.

During this period, the water supply from Dhabeji will be partially reduced. As a result, the city will face a daily shortfall of around 200 million gallons of water. Normally, Karachi receives about 650 million gallons per day, but during the repair work, the supply will drop to nearly 450 million gallons.

KWSC clarified that water coming from Hub, Gharo, and other pumping stations will continue without interruption. However, due to the reduced overall supply, many neighborhoods are likely to experience shortages. These include Clifton, DHA, Korangi, Malir, Landhi, Shah Faisal, Gulshan, Jinnah, Chanesar, Saddar, and Lyari. In addition, the Landhi and Sherpao hydrants will remain closed during the maintenance work.

The corporation said these repairs are important to strengthen the water transmission network and solve long-standing leakage problems. Residents have been advised to use water carefully and avoid wastage until the normal supply is restored.
