Major Set Back For South Africa As Two Key Players Ruled Out of World Cup

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has officially announced that two key players, Anrich Nortje and Sisanda Magala, will not be able to participate in the upcoming World Cup 2023.

This news represents a significant setback for the Proteas, who had high hopes of delivering a strong performance in the eagerly awaited tournament taking place in India.

Anrich Nortje has been sidelined due to a stress fracture in his lower back, and his recovery is expected to be a lengthy process, rendering his participation impossible. Nortje’s absence will certainly be keenly felt, as he has played a pivotal role in the South African fast bowling attack, consistently delivering breakthroughs in crucial situations.

In a parallel development, Sisanda Magala, another talented fast bowler, has also been ruled out of the prestigious tournament due to undisclosed medical reasons.

To address these gaps in the squad, CSA has made changes to the team roster. Among the adjustments, Andile Phehlukwayo and Lizaad Williams have been called up to join the World Cup squad.

The South African team, led by Temba Bavuma, will begin their World Cup campaign by facing Sri Lanka on October 7 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
