LODHRAN – A family court in Lodhran, Punjab, sentenced a man to six months in prison for marrying a second time without his first wife’s consent.
Family Court Judge Tahira Shehzad delivered the verdict and fined the man Rs50,000.

Shakeela Bibi from Kahror Pakka Tehsil filed a petition against her husband, Mohsin, for remarrying without her approval.
After the hearing, the court found Mohsin guilty and sentenced him to six months in jail. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional two-month sentence.
Police arrested Mohsin in the courtroom and transferred him to Central Jail Bahawalpur.
According to the law, marrying again without the first wife’s or arbitration council’s permission can lead to up to one year in prison and a fine of up to Rs500,000. A wife can also approach the union council to claim maintenance for herself and her children.
