LHC Rawalpindi bench issued an order for the registration of a case against high-ranking police officials in the garrison city. This action comes in response to their inability to locate Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, following a habeas corpus petition filed by Rashid Shafiq, who is Sheikh Rashid Ahmed’s nephew.

Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan presiding over the case directed the Regional Police Officer (RPO) to initiate investigations against the Chief Police Officer (CPO), Senior Superintendent of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police, four Station House Officers (SHOs), and others. The court instructed them to formally register a case against these individuals.

Advocate Sardar Abdul Raziq, representing Mr. Shafiq, informed the court that the politician had gone missing approximately 24 days ago. However, despite this, the RPO had continuously requested additional time during four prior hearings. Raziq alleged that the police were needlessly prolonging the case, despite its grave implications for the personal freedom and fundamental rights of a citizen. As a result, he argued that this matter should not be solely entrusted to the police.

Despite the RPO’s request for more time, the court, noting the lack of progress made by the police thus far, granted one final week as an opportunity for the recovery of the missing politician.
