Chinese Company Plans To Build Electric Car Factory In Punjab

Punjab is set to welcome a new electric vehicle manufacturing plant as China’s Letin Auto Group plans to build a factory in the province. This move is expected to boost the local economy and create new jobs.

A delegation from Letin Auto, led by General Manager Xu Zhen, recently met with Punjab’s Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, in Lahore. The two sides discussed the project and possible incentives to encourage investment.

Minister Hussain assured full support from the Punjab government. He said investors in Special Economic Zones would benefit from a 10-year income tax holiday. Additionally, machinery imports for the factory would be duty-free. These incentives aim to attract more foreign investment to Punjab.

The minister also emphasized Punjab’s focus on clean energy and green technology. He said the province wants to lead Pakistan’s shift to electric vehicles. This new factory is a step toward that goal.

Letin Auto Group, also known as Levdeo Automobile Group, faced bankruptcy in China in 2023 but restructured in 2024. The company is now looking to expand into new markets. Pakistan offers a good opportunity due to favorable trade policies and low tariffs on exports.

Other Chinese carmakers like BYD, Changan, and MG are also exploring electric vehicle projects in Pakistan. Experts believe this trend shows the growing potential of the EV sector in Punjab and across the country.

With rising fuel costs and government support for clean mobility, Punjab’s electric vehicle industry could see strong growth. The new factory by Letin Auto is expected to bring significant economic benefits and help Pakistan reduce its carbon footprint.

This development marks an important step for Punjab in becoming a hub for electric vehicle production in South Asia. The provincial government’s support will be key to attracting more investments in this sector.
