Lahore has witnessed a sharp rise in demand for rooftops after the Punjab government announced the dates for the 2027 Basant festival. Advance bookings in some parts of the city are reportedly reaching hundreds of thousands of rupees as residents look for suitable places to celebrate the festival.
The increased activity has been particularly reported in the Walled City, where citizens have started searching for rooftops with clear views for Basant celebrations. Some residents have reportedly booked rooftops at high prices, while others have been visiting different locations with their families before making reservations.
Rooftop owners have also started preparing for the expected demand. Some are repairing damaged structures and making other arrangements ahead of the festival. The increased interest comes after the Punjab government approved an extended Basant celebration in Lahore.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a 10-day Basant festival from January 29 to February 7, 2027. The schedule includes a one-day break on February 5 in observance of Kashmir Day.
The new dates replace the earlier plan for a three-day Basant festival from March 12 to March 14, 2027. The extended schedule is expected to bring greater activity to Lahore as residents and businesses prepare for the celebrations.
The Punjab government has directed relevant authorities to begin preparations in advance and strengthen arrangements for public safety and convenience. Citizens have also been urged to celebrate responsibly and follow all safety regulations.
With the festival still months away, the early demand for rooftops shows growing interest in Basant celebrations. Property owners in popular areas may continue preparing their rooftops as more people look for suitable locations ahead of the event.
