The Lahore administration has approved rooftops of 10 government schools for the Basant Festival 2026 in the Walled City. Officials say this move aims to ensure a safe and well-regulated celebration.
The Education Authority Lahore submitted a report to the School Education Department confirming the selected schools. These include Government High Schools at Bhati Gate, Delhi Gate, Syed Mitha Bazaar, Shah Alam Gate, Victoria Girls High School, and schools in Takia Sadhwan, Kabuli Mill, and Choona Mandi.
School vigilance staff will remain on duty around the clock during the three-day festival. The Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioners will conduct inspections to monitor safety and administrative arrangements. Authorities warned that school heads could be held responsible if preparations are found unsatisfactory.
To maintain law and order, Section 144 has been imposed across Lahore. The order bans kites displaying images of holy books, religious sites, public figures, national flags, or political party symbols. These measures aim to preserve public safety and religious harmony during Basant.
The Punjab government has granted conditional approval for Basant celebrations from February 6 to 8, under the Punjab Kite-Flying Act 2025. The Deputy Commissioner Lahore has officially issued the Basant 2026 notification, outlining rules and safety regulations.
Extensive safety arrangements will be implemented, including safety nets and wire-protection systems on major roads to prevent accidents. Officials emphasized that Basant will only be allowed under strict compliance to ensure a secure environment for participants.
