Lahore Police Seek Court’s Nod For Lie Detector Test On Imran Khan

Lahore police submitted a request to the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), seeking permission to conduct polygraph and photographic tests on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in relation to the May 9 violence cases. The application, filed by the prosecution, argued that the tests are vital for advancing investigations into the attacks that occurred after Khan’s dramatic arrest in 2023.

According to the prosecution, Khan’s cooperation is necessary to uncover the truth behind the violent incidents and to identify those responsible for targeting sensitive state installations. They maintained that these tests would provide clarity in the high-profile cases that have gripped the nation for the past two years.

However, Khan’s legal counsel, Barrister Salman Safdar, fiercely opposed the prosecution’s plea in court, dismissing it as both “malicious” and an “afterthought.” Safdar contended that introducing such an application two years after the incident undermines its legal validity and reflects an act of political victimisation rather than a genuine investigative step.

The May 9 cases stem from the widespread protests and attacks on military and public properties following Imran Khan’s arrest by paramilitary forces at the Islamabad High Court. PTI leadership has repeatedly asserted that the demonstrations were spontaneous public reactions, later manipulated to justify a crackdown on the party.
